This year we opened the Non-Aligned Archive to our local and global community. On May 5th, a public online conversation brought together leading voices from Africa and Europe working at the intersection of cultural heritage, digital tools, and community-based archiving. Petra Matić (Non-Aligned Archive / Jutro) was joined by Mutanu Kyany’a (African Digital Heritage, Kenya), Zainab Gaafar (Safeguarding Sudan's Living Heritage, Sudan) and Seth Avusuglo (Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora, Ghana) to discuss the role of archives in times of crisis, the importance of community ownership, digital preservation strategies, and how heritage lives beyond institutions. Pictured here is Zainav Gaafar from Sudan, explaining the strategies of cultural selfguarding under challenging circumstances, like times of displacement and conflict.
