Seventh Literary Circle – May 7, 2025, Klub MaMa
CRNO-BIJELO is more than just a literary circle – it is a space for encounters, dialogue, and collective reflection on some of today’s most pressing social issues. Here, we engage in discussions about (post)colonialism, racism, migration, and border regimes through the lenses of literature, history, and everyday experience. The circle is conceived as a laboratory for developing anticolonial strategies, but also as a safe space for learning, unlearning, and exchanging knowledge – a space where we build understanding and solidarity together.
As part of the presentation of the Non-Aligned Archive, we invite you to the seventh BLACK-WHITE gathering, taking place on May 7, 2025, at 6 PM at the Multimedia Institute – Klub MaMa (Preradovićeva 18, Zagreb).
This session, we will read and reflect on two important texts:
-
The Black Community and the Non-Aligned Movement by Barbara Lee
-
Speech in the Indian Parliament (27.12.1954) by Josip Broz Tito
We’ll be joined by Paul Stubbs, a British sociologist living and working in Croatia. Stubbs has been researching topics such as racism in social policy, social exclusion, and urban social movements for decades, with a particular focus on socialist Yugoslavia and the Non-Aligned Movement.
“Two very contrasting documents. - one long before the Non Aligned was established but which demonstrates the early elaboration of its principles. The other when NAM was already in a phase of decline but which points to the rather ambivalent racialised politics of NAM in general terms and its lack of responsiveness to social movements.”
Reading in advance is not required to participate, but if you wish to prepare, please announce your attendance by emailing stella@dobrojutro.org by May 5, 2025.
The BLACK-WHITE program is supported by the City of Zagreb, with additional support for the cultural association Jutro from the Moleskine Foundation and Kultura Nova Foundation. The program is organized in partnership with the Subversive Festival.
